It’s Monday! Time for an interview… This week we interviewed Roos from the brand RoosRoffa. Roos designs scarves! Infinity scarves to be more precisely. A scarf always consists of two colours, a base (black or gray) combined with a primary colour.
WE LIKE!!
How would you describe your brand?
RoosRoffa is a brand that makes scarves for adults and children, from soft cotton similar to the fabric used for jogging bottoms.
My daughter never wanted a scarf. Then I made an infinity scarf, and because it’s as soft as a sweater, she did not even notice she was wearing it. Now I simply can not get it off her.
The scarves always consists of two colours, a base (black or gray) which I combine with a primary colour, and because it it is warm and does not itch children really love them.
What lead you to working with fashion?
My background is arts education, but thanks to my mother who is a master tailor, I have always been behind the sewing machine. Literally since childhood.
Originally I had no intention to start a “business” but it slowly escalated and now my scarves are in different stores in the Netherlands and i’m now receiving orders from outside Holland!
How do you define your own personal style?
A good question, that I was recently asked, and I did not know how to answer. They said “Wow, you are either a rapper or a tattoo artist”
I found this a little strange at first, but they’d predefined my style as a mix of street and rock’a’billy, as I tend to wear mostly black, with a pair of sneakers that often matches my scarf. (I love it when colour is coordinated)
I’d prefer to walk all day in heels and dresses from the 50’s, but as Coco Chanel said: “Elegant is not an issue of a dress wear. You are elegant, because you’re classy “
Who has been your biggest fashion influence?
Coco Chanel is my role model, my idol, the most beautiful woman on earth. Going against the grain, yet stylish.
What is the biggest highlight of your career until now?
Today I have an interview with the AD, which is a major newspaper in the Netherlands published in Rotterdam, my days highlight will be when it is in the stores!
What do you find most rewarding, and most challenging about your job?
That best moment is when you see someone (who you do not know personally) walking down the street with a scarf of yours. The feeling is really indescribable.
What is your favourite item (colour combination) from your AW13 collection?
Ocher with dark gray. This year I did a collabo with: Animal Rescue Pluche. They make illustrations of fabulous monsters and creatures which we have printed on the children scarves. These have become the best sellers this season!
What do you like and dislike about the fashion industry?
I find it hard to cope with competition. My role model Coco Chanel saw this as a compliment, but I have trouble with it.
