Graphic expressions, innovative prints as well as metallic details, tone-on-tone effects and colour blocking. molo is definitely one of the most playful brands I’ve ever seen and with so many combinations of colours, materials and patterns. This collection is the largest to date and offers a mix of craziness and simplicity.
Danish funky children’s brand molo was founded just over 10 years ago by Mogens Jepsen. Time for an interview with him!
How would you describe your brand?
At molo we strive to give each design the possibility to express freedom and individuality. The roots are in the North European design: clean and simple, but also urban and ironic. The lines are easy to wear and often enriched with prints and original details.
What is the inspiration behind your SS14 collection?
molo’s SS2014 collection offers a juxtaposition of craziness and simplicity. The collection is an experiment in contrasts, graphic expressions, innovative prints as well tone-on-tone effects and colour blocking.
What is your favorite piece from the collection?
That’s a difficult one. I have favorites… But if I have to choose only two, I would pick the graphical tiger T-shirt where the print is in 3D and you get a pair of old-school 3D with it and a charming white summer dress with a digital cactus flower print in funky colours.
Do you have children? How does that influence your work?
I have two kids of my own. An almost 7-year old boy and a 9-year old daughter. Children influence me in general – not only my own. They mix and match clothes that adults would never do. I think that we can learn a lot from that. It shows great appetite on life!
What are the most rewarding and most challenging aspects of your job?
There is no doubt that the most rewarding thing is to spot children wearing your clothes or to hear that you have made their all-time favorite item. The hardest part is that there are so many things that can go wrong from the design is made to the actual style ends up in a store! Luckily, we have great people working at molo making sure that everything goes right .
How would you describe your own personal style?
It’s a mix of many inspirations depending on the mood of the day. Masculine yet feminine with a funky twist and never bohemian…
