Iglo and Indi is a children’s clothing company from Reykjavik, Iceland. The philosophy of the company is simple: To create children’s clothes that are stylish and beautiful without ever compromising on comfort and practicality.
We love their SS14 collection – original prints, bows, ruffles and elbow patches, designed to become ‘everyday favourites’ by using only the best fabrics to ensure the best resistance to wear and tear. Maybe you have already noticed Heloise and Alexander wearing some of Igo and Indi’s designs on our Instagram account?
It’s about time for an interview. Helga, the founder and head designer of Iglo and Indi took the time to answer some questions for us. Merci!
How would you describe your brand?
The brand philosophy is simple: To create stylish and beautiful children’s clothes without compromising on comfort and practicality. Ígló&Indí focuses on enriching the lives of children with quality products that positively influence the way they look, feel, play and experience their environment. All pieces have smart and beautiful details such as ruffles, bows, elbow patches and prints. Every piece of clothing is carefully designed to be an ‘every day favourite’ using only exceptional fabrics to ensure maximum wear and tear resistance. The Ígló&Indí collection is broken down into two age groups, for newborns to 18 months & for boys and girls from 2-12 years.
What is the inspiration behind your SS14 collection?
The inspiration comes from a land way up North there is a secret garden where children play free through the endless arctic summers. Through rainy days and nights filled with amber sunshine. It’s a garden inhabited by children and their imaginary animal friends.
What is your favorite piece from the collection?
It is almost impossible to chose, I love every piece and I change constantly. Today my favourite piece is the Camilla Parrot Jacket , last week my favourite piece was the Ben raglan top with animal print and next week my favourite piece will probably be the Milly top in yellow with beautiful animal collage.
Do you have children? How does that influence your work?
I have three children, Viktoría Thora 11 years, Baldvin 7 years and Indíana Svala 16 months. They have a big influence of my work as they are such creative youngsters, I find myself constantly picking up their creative work. I find their art and drawings all over the place. I like to study their way of dress and also how they use colors when they draw. I often ask them what they think about my work.
What are the most rewarding and most challenging aspects of your job?
It is so rewarding to see kids dressed in Ígló&Indí clothing, I get photos from kids all-over the world in my design. The most challenging is to design clothing that the kids and love to wear and like to wear.
How would you describe your own personal style?
My style is very colourful, I have always been in love with colours. At work I wear silk blouse, cardigan, jeans and some cool shoes, when I go out I love to wear colourful dress and high heals.
